Traditionally yogis practiced the physical yoga postures in order to be able to sit comfortably in a seated position to meditate, observe the inner workings of the individual mind, while identifying with the Spirit, the Self, the Universal Consciousness. Meditation brings about a great sense of peace as we learn to let go of our own ideas of who we are and detach from our regular patterns of thinking, resting the mind and focusing our mental energy towards the innermost Spirit.
At Baltimore Yoga Village we offer easy ways to begin a practice of meditation. Meditation is not religious, but it does help one to connect with something greater than the individual ego. We offer meditation for its variety of physical, emotional, and mental benefits. Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction is a course in self-discovery, rooted in the practices of mindfulness meditation that can help you to perceive and therfore respond, to stressful situations. Loving Meditation is a course that helps still the chattering mind and focuses more on living from the heart. Each course offers a variety of techniques so that surely there is something for everyone to take home to practice. Introduction to Meditation with Josh Rothschild is geared toward the complete beginner, offering simple and tangible techniques for those who want to learn focus, concentration, and gradually step into a meditation practice.
Practicing a form of meditation along with yoga is highly recommended and can inform, focus and deepen the yoga experience.
